The Compleat Works of Wllm Shksper (Abridged)

by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield
directed by Miranda Prince

Auditions: June 2, 3, 4, 2008
Performances: Aug. August 8, 9, 15, 16, 17m, 21, 22, 23, 2008

A whirlwind jaunt through all 37 of William Shakespeare's published works, including the sonnets. This smart, funny and irreverent show will have you laughing out loud. The longest-running comedy in London, described by the Montreal Gazette as "the funniest show you are likely to see in your entire lifetime."

"Breathlessly paced, slapstick merriment!" New York Times

(Racy content, men dressed as women, and cartoonish violence.)

Cast of characters

The director is seeking three nimble adult actors - male or female - to play the roles created by the play's writers (the actors' own names will substitute for the following):

  • Adam: The youngest and most naive of the three; he does most of the cross-dressing. A great chance for a strong actor to have some silly fun on stage.
  • Daniel: The scholarly one, but still very funny.
  • Jess: The peace-maker, more or less. Also extremely funny.

Auditioners should prepare a short (1-2 minutes max) monologue from a Shakespeare play, and be ready to present it in different styles at the whim of the director.

The director

Miranda Prince is directing her sixth production for Albany Civic Theater; her past credits include Seussical: the Musical and Extreme Theater 2: Electric Boogaloo. A former member of our board of directors, she works as a Spanish tutor at LBCC, and lives in Albany with her husband, Charlie.
